SEATTLE - The 33rd-ranked San Diego State men's tennis team suffered a 4-3 loss to No. 27 Tulane on Saturday afternoon in the first contest of the Great Northwest Shootout at the Lloyd Nordstrom Center.
SDSU (1-2) lost the doubles point in three hard-fought matches. Tulane's Michael Kogan and Victor Romero took out the Aztecs' top duo of Oliver Maiberger (Lorsch, Germany/Goethe Gymnasium) and Ryan Redondo (Carlsbad, Calif./Pepperdine), while the other two matches were split by scores of 8-5.
The teams split their six singles matches, including two three-set decisions each. Maiberger and Redondo came back to win their contests, but the doubles point ultimately decided the result with Tulane claiming the 4-3 victory.
The Aztecs return to action tomorrow in Seattle against the loser of today's other contest between host No. 12 Washington and No. 37 Clemson.
