SAN DIEGO - A Mountain West Conference basketball showdown with UNLV and Tony Gwynn's home debut as San Diego State's head baseball coach will make for a busy Tuesday afternoon and evening on the SDSU campus.
The day begins when San Diego State hosts No. 22 South Alabama in a baseball game at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The game begins at 3 p.m. and marks the first home game in the coaching career of former Aztec and former San Diego Padre Tony Gwynn.
Following the baseball game, at 7 p.m in Cox Arena, San Diego State hosts UNLV in a Mountain West Conference men's basketball contest that is a rematch of last year's Mountain West Tournament championship game, won by the Aztecs.
"These events are two of our marquee contests of the school year," said Steve Schnall, San Diego State's director of marketing. "We expect to draw many fans of both programs to campus and with Tuesdays already a heavy traffic day on campus, I would urge all Aztec fans to arrive early for both events."
The Aztec baseball squad is 2-4 while South Alabama will be opening its season. The hoops team is 12-7 and 3-3 in the league race. The game with UNLV marks the halfway point in the MWC season.
