San Diego - San Diego State freshman Emily Schmied has been named Mountain West Conference women's swimmer of the week.
Schmied, a Woodinville, Wash., native, swam to individual victories in the 100-yard butterfly (59.24) and 200-yard individual medley (2:10.27) events and was part of the winning 200-yard medley (1:51.19) relay team as the Aztecs bested Cal Poly in a dual meet (158-81) on January 31.
Following her performance against the Mustangs, Schmied swam to individual victories in the 100 (58.79) and 200-yard butterfly (2:07.20) and was part of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay (3:35.94) and second place 200-yard medley relay (1:51.86) teams as San Diego State defeated Fresno State in a dual meet (160-138) on February 1. Her time in the 400 freestyle is a new season best for the Aztecs.
SDSU finished its dual meet season with a 6-8 record following consecutive wins in its final four meets. The team will now have two weeks to prepare for the Mountain West Conference Championships to be held Feb. 19-22 in Oklahoma City.
