Aztecs Get Much Needed Win Against Cowboys

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Tony Bland scored 18 points and Mike Mackell and freshman Evan Burns added 17 points apiece, leading San Diego State to an 80-70 victory over Wyoming on Monday night.

San Diego State (12-7, 3-3 Mountain West Conference) handed the Cowboys only their second loss in 15 games and broke its own three-game losing streak.

Mackell was tough inside, while Bland made 7-of-12 shots on a variety of drives and short-range jumpers.

Burns, a McDonald's All-American, made his first start a success, adding eight rebounds, five assists and a spectacular fast-break dunk.

The Aztecs never trailed after taking a 5-3 lead on Deandre Moore's 3-pointer with just 1:19 gone in the game. The Cowboys (16-4, 4-1) fell behind by as many as 16 points in the second half.

David Rottinghaus and Uche Nsonwu-Amadi scored 14 points apiece for Wyoming, which was outrebounded 39-23.

Aerick Sanders added 14 points and 14 rebounds for San Diego State, which was ahead 41-39 at halftime after leading at various times in the first half by double figures.

Wyoming's only other loss in its last 15 games was at No. 12 Kansas on Jan. 15.
