SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team opened its 2003 spring season with a 6-1 win against Long Beach State at the SDSU Tennis Courts Saturday.
The Aztec pairs of Silvia Tornier/Indra Erichsen and Katalina Romero/Katja Karrento defeated the 49ers' Kelly Chan/Alanah Carroll and Lindsey Marvel/Claudia Argumedo by scores of 8-2 and 8-4, respectively, to earn the doubles point. Although SDSU's Patricia Graf/Lindsey Hedberg fell to LBSU's Laura Thomas/Megan Biorkman, Graf/Hedberg put up a solid effort, losing 8-6.
In singles action, top-seeded Aztec Silvia Tornier defeated Laura Thomas, 6-1, 6-0. SDSU's Lindsey Hedberg also blanked her competition, beating Megan Biorkman 6-0, 6-1. Aztecs Katja Karrento, Katalina Romero and Indra Erichsen were also winners in today's tennis action.
San Diego State's next opponent is California. The Aztecs face off against the Bears at noon on Saturday, Feb. 1, at the SDSU Tennis Courts.
