SDSU Tennis Ranked in Preseason Polls

San Diego - The San Diego State University men's and women's tennis teams are both ranked in the Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis preseason polls, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association has announced.

The women's team is No. 28 in the first poll of the season. Coach Peter Mattera's squad advanced to the first round of the NCAA Tournament last year and finished the season ranked 30th.

The men's team is No. 31 in the rankings. The squad advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships last season.

Individually, SDSU's Silvia Tornier is No. 66 for the women, while Oliver Maiberger is No. 13 and Daniel Jung is No. 113 in the men's poll. Maiberger and Ryan Redondo also hold the No. 6 spot for doubles.

Stanford (women) and UCLA (men) hold the No. 1 spots in the rankings. Individually for the women, Georgia's Agata Cioroch is ranked at the top, while Baylor's Benedikt Dorsch is No. 1 for the men.
