SAN DIEGO (AP) - Tony Bland scored 21 of his season high 29 in the first half, leading San Diego State to a 79-69 win over Loyola Marymount Friday for its sixth straight win.
San Diego State (8-3) enjoyed a huge edge at the free throw line in the second half, making 19-of-22 free throws compared to just 5-of-6 for the Lions. Loyola Marymount didn't shoot its first free throw in the second half until 2:16 remained.
Bland had 11 shots from the field and 7 free throws.
The Lions' early foul trouble in the second half had San Diego State in the bonus with more than 13 minutes remaining. The Aztecs were already shooting in the double bonus at the 10:16 mark.
San Diego State's winning streak was its longest since the 2000-2001 season. The Aztecs have not won seven in a row since 1984.
San Diego State, which trailed since the 5:55 mark of the first half, took the lead for good at 61-60 on Mike Mackell's inside basket with 8:22 left. The Aztecs never trailed again.
Mackell finished with 13 points in coach Steve Fisher's 100th game since taking over the San Diego State program in 1999.
Keith Kincade scored 22 points to lead Loyola Marymount (6-8).
