Swimmers Stand 13th At Speedo Cup

Long Beach - San Diego State had six individual swimmers and two relay teams turn in season-best performances during day one of the Speedo Cup being held in Long Beach through Saturday. After the meet's first five events, the Aztecs had accumulated 91 points and stood 13th of 21 teams in attendance.

SDSU's top finish of the day came from senior Erin Kilpatrick in the 500 freestyle where she swam a personal and team season best 5:03.10. Two of her teammates also turned in the team's third and fourth-best (as well as personal best) times of the year in this event: Megan Storey (5:06.52) and Hannah Ryan (5:12.07).

In the 200 individual medley, freshman Emily Schmied swam a 2:07.96 to take over the team lead in that event. In addition, frosh Melissa Webb also turned in a personal best 2:10.72. Another first-year Aztec, Amy Osback, went 25.12 in the 50 freestyle to record her lowest time of the year.

San Diego State also turned in best times in the day's two relay events. In the 200 free relay, SDSU went 1:40.29 to establish a new season standard. In the 400 medley relay, the Aztecs' two teams recorded the team's top two times of the year (4:00.25 and 4:03.19).

Action continues at the Speedo Cup on Friday with seven more events including three relays and the 100-yuard butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke plus the 200 free.
