Tolver Is A Unanimous All-Mountain West Pick

Dec. 10, 2002

COLORADO SPRINGS - San Diego State wide receivers J.R. Tolver and Kassim Osgood, the best receiving duo in NCAA history, were both named to the all-Mountain West Conference football first team, the league announced Tuesday.

San Diego State sophomore linebacker Kirk Morrison was SDSU's other first-team all-league selection. He is one of six sophomores honored as a first-teamer by the league's coaches and a media panel.

Other Aztec honorees include all-Mountain West second-teamers center Johnathan Ingram, defensive end Amon Arnold and cornerback Jeff Shoate.

Seven San Diego State players were named honorable mention: punt returner Kyle Conerly, offensive lineman Brendan Darby, defensive end Akbar Gbaja Biamila, quarterback Adam Hall, defensive lineman Jared Ritter, defensive back Ricky Sharpe and punter Brian Simnjanovski.

Tolver ended the 2002 season with 128 catches that covered 1,785 yards. Both marks are school and Mountain West records and rank among the top 10 single-season marks (seventh in catches and fourth in yards) in NCAA history.

Ogood's season of 108 catches and 1,552 yards would both be San Diego State records if not for Tolver's 2002 campaign.

Morrison finished the year with 97 tackles. He led the Mountain West with five fumble recoveries and ranked among the top 10 with three interceptions. He is San Diego State's first sophomore first-teamer since defensive end Kabeer Gbaja Biamila in 1997.
