San Diego State Knocks Off Long Beach State, 64-55

LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Mike Mackell scored 17 points and Tony Bland added 11 to lead San Diego State to a 64-55 victory over Long Beach State on Tuesday night.

Evan Burns added 10 points and Aerick Sanders had 12 rebounds.

The Aztecs' win brought their record to 3-3. San Diego State has now beaten the 49ers in nine of the last 10 meetings dating back to 1980.

Trailing 31-26 at halftime, Long Beach State went on a 12-2 run to open the second half to take a 38-33 lead. But the Aztecs countered with a 11-2 run of their own over the next five minutes and 44 seconds to regain the lead, 46-40, with 10:15 left in the game.

The 49ers cut San Diego State's lead to 58-54 on Tony Darden's jumper with 2:23 left, but Long Beach State couldn't get any closer.

Darden led all scorers with 20 points, including three 3-pointers. Kevin Roberts added 13 points and grabbed 9 rebounds for Long Beach State (1-5) who dropped their fourth game in a row.
