SAN DIEGO (AP) - Steve Sir scored 18 points, all on 3-pointers, as San Diego State set a school record for 3-point field goals in an 87-57 win over UC San Diego on Monday night.
Sir, a 6-foot-6 redshirt freshman, made 6-of-10 3-point attempts to lead San Diego State's dominant performance against its NCAA Division II opponent.
The Aztecs (2-2) hit 16 3-pointers to break the school record of 13 set twice, most recent against Nevada Las Vegas on Feb. 24, 2001.
The game was San Diego State's final tune-up before hosting No. 1-ranked Arizona on Saturday.
The Tritons trailed 36-24 when San Diego State closed out the first half with an 11-0 run in the final 1:59 for a 47-24 halftime lead. Sir hit two 3-pointers and Deandre Moore made one on consecutive possessions to highlight the run.
Tony Bland, 4-for-7 from 3-point range, added 18 points for San Diego State, which enjoyed a 47-28 edge on the boards.
Jordan Watkins and Sean Crawford scored 15 points apiece to lead UC San Diego in its season opener.
San Diego State has won all five meetings between the schools by an average of 29.4 points.
