SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) -Mike Mackell and Tony Bland each scored 21 points Saturday as San Diego State overcame an early 13-point deficit to beat Cal Poly 65-62.
The Aztecs (1-2), playing without transfers Travis Hanour and Chris Manker, outscored the Mustangs (1-2) 31-26 in the second half.
San Luis Obispo played without transfers Shane Schilling and Diaby Kamara, and Phillip Johnson, who has been sidelined with mononucleosis.
San Diego State took its first lead at 40-38 early in the second half on a basket by Bland. But Cal Poly regained the advantage and built a 50-41 lead on a three-pointer by Steve Geary with 13 minutes to go.
The Aztecs outscored the Mustangs 24-12 the rest of the way, taking the lead for good with 5:17 to play on a layup from Deandre Moore.
Moore had 10 points and seven rebounds as the Aztecs shot 34.9 percent in the game.
