Volleyball Upset At UNLV

LAS VEGAS - UNLV used a solid offensive attack to upset San Diego State, 3-0 (30-23, 30-28, 30-20), Saturday evening in Las Vegas. The loss dropped the Aztecs to 18-11 overall, but more importantly they fall to 9-3 in Mountain West Conference play, a game behind league-leading Colorado State (10-2) with two matches left. The Rebels improved to 9-17 (5-7 MWC) as they avenged a 3-0 loss at SDSU earlier in the season.

San Diego State was led by Zlatina Angeulova's 11 kills, the only Aztec to reach double figures. Junior Aspen McPartland recorded seven kills and a match-high 15 digs on the night.

UNLV was paced by the hitting of Leiana Oswald who finished with 19 kills and a .381 hitting percentage.

As a team, SDSU hit just .016 for the match with four players ending up in with negative attack percentages. The Rebels hit .226 and outblocked the visitors 9.5 to 4.0.

The Aztecs concluded their conference season next weekend with matches at New Mexico (Fri., Nov. 15) and Air Force (Sat., Nov. 16) prior to the league championship tournament, which gets underway on November 21 at Colorado State.
