Women's Soccer Players Garner Mountain West Conference Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS - Senior forward Arinda Alvarez and junior forward Kim Castellanos were named to the Mountain West all-conference first team it was announced today.

Alvarez, a Chula Vista native, saw action in all 18 Aztec matches in 2002 and tallied a total of five goals to go along with one assist. During the 2002 campaign, she took a career-high 34 shots and earned a total of 11 points. A walk-on in the spring of 2001, Alvarez has a total of 19 career points, seven goals and five assists in just two years of action.

Castellanos led the team this year in goals (9), points (24) and shots (46). The Escondido native notched a goal or an assist in five of the Aztecs' last six games of the 2002 campaign. She is currently listed third in the Aztec record books for career goals with 29 and third in total career points (67). She ended the 2002 regular season listed among the top-5 in the league in all individual statistical categories for the year except game-winning goals, as her nine goals ranked third in the conference, she tied for second for most assists (6), earned the second-most points and took the fifth-most shots of any MWC player. A three-time recipient of first-team honors, Castellanos was named Mountain West Conference co-Freshman of the Year in 2000.
