San Diego - With a win in the final event of the day, San Diego State defeated the University of San Diego, 152-149, in dual meet action at the USD sports Center Saturday afternoon. The victory improved the Aztecs' record to 1-2 on the season while the contest was the Toreros' first dual meet action of the season.
With USD leading the meet by a single point, the meet came down to the 400 freestyle relay. The Aztec foursome of Sarah Lattus, Amy Osback, Emily Schmied and Erin Kilpatrick finished just over a second better than the USD to decide the meet in SDSU's favor.
Kilpatrick also won the 100 free in a time of 10:29.46, finished second in the 200 butterfly ((2:12.47), and took third in the100 butterfly (1:00.19). Teammate Alexis Kilian captured the 100 backstroke (1:01.15) and took second in the 200 back (2:10.83).
San Diego State also got first place finishes from Sarah Lattus in the 50 free (25.08), Nicole Castelyn in the 200 back (2:10.23) and Hannah Ryan in the 50 free (5:10.19).
Up next for the Aztecs is a return to conference action as they travel to Albuquerque to take on New Mexico and Brigham Young on Thursday, Nov. 7. SDSU will also swim against Northern Arizona at that same meet. The team will remain in New Mexicos next weekend to participate in the New Mexico Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Nov. 8-9)
