COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State concluded its Mountain West Conference season with a sweep of Air Force (30-22, 30-20, 30-18) in Colorado Springs Saturday night. The win allowed the Aztecs (20-11, 11-3 MWC) to claim sole possession of second place in the final league standings and the number-two seed at the upcoming conference tournament. It was SDSU's second 3-0 win this season over the Falcons, who fell to 8-21 (2-12 MWC).
The Aztecs were led by junior Aspen McPartland who had 11 kills and a total of 12 blocks (3 solo, 9 assists). Rochelle Currier also finished in double figure in kills with 10.
Air Force's Tiffany Bishop led all players with 13 kills on the night while teammate Christina Nigro contributed 13 digs.
Despite hitting just .163 for the match, San Diego State was in control from the start, holding the Falcons to a .028 attack percentage over the three games. SDSU dominated at the net, out-blocking Air Force 17-5.
San Diego State's second-place league finish means they will face number-seven seed New Mexico in the first round of the MWC Tournament which begins on Thursday (Nov. 21, time TBA) at Colorado State. The Aztecs and Lobos played this past Friday in Albuquerque, with SDSU winning a tight match in five games.
