FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State came back from a two-game deficit to defeat San Diego State in five games (27-30, 18-30, 30-25, 30-21, 15-12) Friday evening at Moby Arena in Fort Collins, Colo. With the win, the Rams improved to 10-6 overall and 2-0 in Mountain West Conference action. The Aztecs fell to 11-8 overall and 2-1 in league play with the loss.
San Diego State was led by Nicole Akporiaye with 14 kills, while Rochelle Currier added 13, Aspen McPartland had 12 and setter Melissa Wright chipped in 11 kills. Wright tallied a triple-double in the match, adding 51 assists and 12 digs.
McPartland -- the two-time Mountain West Conference Player of the Week -- led all players with 28 digs. That stat represents a career best for the junior from San Diego, surpassing her previous high of 22 at Utah during her freshman season. Akporiaye led all players with eight blocks.
A turning point in the match came in game three when outside hitter Zlatina Anguelova went down with ankle injury. She was leading the team in kills (nine) at the time, but finished her night on the bench. It is the second time this season she has suffered an injury during a match. She went down with a sprained knee against Missouri in mid-September and missed the following match against USD.
Colorado State was led by freshman Tess Rogers with a career-high 23 kills and senior Michelle Knox with 20 kills. Sophomore Lindsey Kerr recorded a career-high in digs for the second consecutive match, tallying 26 digs on the night.
The Aztecs continue conference action Saturday night (Oct. 5) when they visit Wyoming for a 7:00 p.m. (MDT) match.
