KAPOLEI, Hawaii - The San Diego State women's golf team stands in 14th place after the first two rounds of the Kent Youel Invitational, held at Kapolei Golf Course in Kapolei, Oahu, Hawaii. The Aztecs shot 308-318 to finish the first day at 50-over par 626. At 5-over 581, Golfstat No. 4 California is the second-round leader as the Bears took full advantage of the day's near-perfect scoring conditions to jump out to a 15-shot lead over second-place No. 16 UCLA (596).
After shooting 72-71--143, Cal's Sophia Sheridan holds the 36-hole lead over an individual field boasting 11 players ranked in both the top 100 of the Golfweek and Golfstat ratings.
The Aztecs claimed four counting scores in the 70s over the first 18 holes for the fourth straight round and were tied for ninth place, but then slipped to 14th after having to count two scores in the 80s in the second round. SDSU's top individual in the standings is junior Sandy Kim (West Linn, Ore.). Following a season-best 1-over 73 in the second round, Kim is tied for 14th at 6-over 150.
Among the Aztecs' other scores, junior Shayna Miyajima (Wialuku, Hawaii) is tied for 33rd at 10-over 154, seniors Claire Riley (San Diego, Calif.) and Jennifer Hoene (Acampo, Calif.) are tied for 52nd place at 158 and 73rd place at 164, respectively, and freshman Brittany Bailey stands 88th at 174.
Play resumes Wednesday with a 7:30 a.m. HST shotgun start for the final round of the Kent Youel Invitational.
