SAN DIEGO (AP) - J.R. Tolver caught two touchdown passes and Kyle Conerly returned a punt 87 yards for a touchdown, lifting San Diego State to a 31-21 victory over Nevada Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Tolver, the school's career leader in receptions, scored on catches of 56 yards and 1 yard as San Diego State (3-5, 3-0 Mountain West Conference) won its third straight after starting the season with five consecutive losses.

Tolver finished with nine receptions for 151 yards, increasing his career total to 3,003 yards, second in school history.

The three-game winning streak was the first for San Diego State since 1998.

Conerly's return helped provide the Aztecs some cushion, giving San Diego State a 24-14 lead at the 8:39 mark of the third quarter.

Conerly eluded two tacklers shortly after fielding the punt, then sidestepped the final Rebel, punter Gary Cook, at the San Diego State 35-yard line.

Las Vegas (3-5, 1-2 MWC) struggled offensively for most of the game, scoring on a 31-yard run by Dominique Dorsey and on Jason Thomas' 15-yard run late in the fourth quarter.

The Rebels also scored on Jamal Wynn's 81-yard fumble return that gave them a 14-10 halftime lead.

San Diego State freshman Frederick Collins rushed for 106 yards on 31 carries and scored on a 3-yard run.
