VENTURA, Calif. - The San Diego State women's golf team is in third place today after the first 18 holes at the 2002 Matador Fall Classic. The Aztecs shot a 305 to finish the day at 17-over on the par-72 course at Olivas Park.
Junior Sandy Kim currently leads the Aztecs, as she is tied for fifth place overall, shooting 1-over in the front nine of the round and 2-over in back nine for a score of 75. Shayna Miyajima, who has finished in first place for the Aztecs in the previous two events this season, is currently tied for 13th at 5-over par (77). The Wialuku, Hawaii, native has now posted six consecutive rounds of 79 or better. In her collegiate debut, redshirt freshman Brittany Bailey is tied for 30th at 9-over.
Host Cal State Northridge leads the field of 11 teams with 295, while Portland is two strokes in front of SDSU with a first round score of 303. Matador Elizabeth Allen leads the competition with a 2-under score of 70.
The final round of 18 will be played tomorrow with tee time slated for 10:30 a.m.
