San Diego State Leads After Round One Of The Barona Collegiate Cup

LAKESIDE, Calif. - Behind senior John Lepak's 7-under 65, the San Diego State men's golf team holds the lead after the first round of the Barona Collegiate Cup. The host Aztecs stand at 12-under 276, one shot ahead of second place Denver (277, -11) and six shots in front of California and Colorado State (283).

The host Aztecs, who finished second in their tournament last season, got off to fast start and ranked among the leaders throughout the first round thanks to the play of Lepak. The La Habra Heights, Calif., native blistered the front nine of the 7,088-yard course with a 5-under 31, then followed up with a score of 34 coming in to take a one-shot lead over Peter Tomasulo of California (66). Tied for third are Denver's Shawn Wills and BYU's Ron Harvey, Jr. at 5-under 67.

Among the Aztecs' other scores, freshman Andrew Scott and senior John Lieber share 14th place with eight other players at 2-under 70, while senior Charlie Smith is tied for 24th at 1-under 71 and junior Mark Warman shares 41st place at 1-over 73.

The San Diego State Red Team registered a first-round total of six-over 294, as senior Lars Johansson and sophomore Aaron Choi each shot 73, junior Gilberto Rodriguez and senior Chris Galeski both carded 74s and senior Brian Miller shot an 80.
