Box Score

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's soccer team defeated the Air Force Falcons, 1-0, in SDSU's first overtime victory since Nov. 15, 1998. With the win, the Aztecs' record improves to 10-4-0 with a 2-1 mark in Mountain West Conference action. Air Force falls to 5-11-0, 0-4-0 in the league.

Sunday's match between the Aztecs and Falcons lasted, in essence, just 13 seconds. The two teams ended regulation play tied at 0-0. On SDSU's first possession of the ball at the start of the first overtime period, junior Kim Castellanos dribbled the ball down toward the 18-yard box. Senior Boo Tinling hurried from the back line defense to take the pass from Castellanos and, in turn, passed the ball to senior Nicole Findlay who knocked in the goal at 90:13.

Although head coach Chuck Clegg was pleased with the win, he noted that because the Aztecs had the advantage in the number of shots taken (18-2), the team could have scored more goals.

"We should have put them away earlier," said Clegg. "Our finishing and our crossing were struggling today. But overall it was a good team effort."

The Aztec defense kept the Falcons from taking any shots in the first half, while SDSU's offense managed six in the first 45 minutes, followed by 11 in the second half. Senior Arinda Alvarez took a team-high seven shots in the match, and Castellanos and Findlay each took three. San Diego State kept Falcon keeper J.J. Wolf busy at the net, as she registered nine saves.

The Aztecs now travel north for a pair of matches in Utah. SDSU will play at Utah on Thursday at 3 p.m., followed by a game at BYU on Saturday at 7 p.m.
