Women's Soccer Tops Wyoming, 2-1

SAN DIEGO - Senior Shawni Flint scored her first collegiate goal to lift the Aztecs to a 2-1 victory over the Wyoming Cowgirls Friday afternoon. With the win, SDSU improves to 9-4-0 overall and evens its mark in Mountain West Conference action at 1-1. The Cowgirls slip to 4-9-1 and have yet to get in a win in league play (0-3).

Flint scored early in the match, knocking in SDSU's first goal at 2:17 off an assist from senior Nicole Findlay, her fourth of the season. In the 17th minute of the game, senior Michele Wagner found the back of net for her second goal of the 2002 campaign. Junior Kim Castellanos was credited with the assist.

The Cowgirls tried to get into the game, as sophomore forward Renee Minero scored a goal three minutes into the second half. Both Wyoming and San Diego State battled for possession of the ball for the remainder of the match, as SDSU hung on for the win.

The Aztecs out-shot the Cowgirls 16-6, holding Wyoming to just two shots in the first half. Castellanos posted a team-high three shots while Wagner, Findlay, Flint, Arinda Alvarez and Lisette Martinez each took three.

Up next for San Diego State is a match with Air Force (5-9-0, 0-2-0) on Sunday at 1 p.m. on the SDSU Sports Deck.
