Oct. 18, 2002

SAN DIEGO - Buoyed by the serving of Robyn Gregg and a team hitting percentage of .398, San Diego State defeated Air Force, 3-0 (30-16, 30-15, 30-16), Friday evening in Peterson Gym.

With their victory along with Colorado State's loss at BYU and Utah's loss at Wyoming, the Aztecs (14-9) moved into a tie for first place in the Mountain West Conference (with CSU) at 5-1. It's the team's best start to a league campaign since 1997 when it began with a 5-1 mark as a member of the Western Athletic Conference.

Gregg, a junior from nearby Santee (West Hills HS), served up nine aces during the match, a new career high, while also contributing eight digs.

SDSU senior Rochelle Currier turned in a match-high 17 kills for the Aztecs, which won its four straight league home contest. Aspen McPartland recorded her 11th double-double of the season with a dozen kills and 10 blocks.

Outside Hitter Zlatina Anguelova, who missed SDSU's most recent two matches with an ankle injury, marked her return to the lineup with 11 kills, no errors and a .458 hitting percentage on the night.

The Falcons (8-12, 2-4 MWC) were led by Tiffany Bishop's 11 kills. They also got a 20-dig performance from junior Jaime Beatty.

Up next for San Diego State is a meeting with MWC foe New Mexico on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 7:00 p.m. in Peterson Gym.
