Women's Soccer Victorious in Reno

RENO, Nev. - It was a game of season-firsts for the San Diego State women's soccer team, as four different Aztecs, Sheila Dayog, Jamie Harlor, Becky Prilaman and Boo Tinling, notched their first goals of the 2002 season in SDSU's 5-1 win over Nevada Sunday afternoon. The win improves the Aztecs' overall record to 8-4-0.

Senior Nicole Findlay scored first for SDSU, hitting the back of the net in the eighth minute off an assist from Amanda Swiader. Junior defender Sheila Dayog tacked on another goal for the Aztecs at 28:15. With 39 seconds remaining in the first half, senior Jamie Harlor found the back of the net to give San Diego State a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Nevada's lone goal came from Leisha Makinano nearly 10 minutes into the second half. SDSU defender Becky Prilaman scored at 70:32 with assistance from Findlay. Senior Boo Tinling added a last-second goal, scoring the Aztecs' final goal with just under 40 seconds remaining in regulation.

The goals scored by Dayog and Harlor were not only their first of the season, but were the first goals of their respective Aztec careers. SDSU notched a season-high 18 shots, while the Wolf Pack took just seven. Aztec goalkeeper Sophia Perez posted four saves to Nevada's nine.

"We played really well today," said head coach Chuck Clegg. "After coming off our loss on Friday, we were the first to every ball and played very aggressively. It was an exciting game."

The Aztecs return to Mountain West Conference action on Friday, Oct. 18, as they host Wyoming for a 1 p.m. match.
