Women's Soccer Falls in Conference Opener

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's soccer team was shut out by New Mexico, 1-0, Friday afternoon in the Aztecs' conference opener. The loss drops SDSU to an overall record of 7-4-0, 0-1 in Mountain West Conference action, while the Lobos now own an 8-5-0 mark, 1-0 in MWC play. It is the first loss for San Diego State at home on the Sports Deck this season.

Lobo midfielder Rachael Addison headed in the lone goal of the match at 23:56 off an assist from junior Erchen Theys. Addison tallied an addition three shots in the game.

Aztec senior Jamie Harlor had her best outing of the season, posting two shots on goal, one of which was blocked at the goal line and the other saved by New Mexico goalkeeper Kristen Winters. Harlor notched a team-high total of three shots in the match, as did junior Kim Castellanos. Freshman Lisette Martinez was credited with two shots, while senior Nicole Findlay took one.

"Our mental approach was a factor in this loss. In conference play, every game is a play-off game in a sense," said assistant coach Angela Morrison. "Every game is very important. New Mexico just came with more passion, more of a desire to win. Physically, we need to be quicker, so we can be in the position to win balls."

San Diego State's next opponent is Nevada. The Aztecs take on the Wolf Pack on Sunday at noon in Reno.
