Box Score

SAN DIEGO - Despite the wind and rain, San Diego State's women's soccer team defeated North Carolina State, 3-1, Friday afternoon in the second game of the San Diego State Tournament. The Aztecs now own a perfect 3-0 record at the SDSU Sports Deck. With the win, SDSU improved to 3-1, while the Wolfpack dropped to a 1-2 mark.

The Aztecs struck early, posting two goals within the first 25 minutes of play. Junior forward Kim Castellanos knocked in SDSU's first goal with assistance from junior Sheila Dayog. The assist is the first collegiate point for Dayog, who also took two shots during the match.

Senior midfielder Michele Wagner put another goal on the board for the Aztecs, off assists from Noelle Jouglet and Erica Lopez. Freshman Amanda Swiader knocked in her first collegiate goal 74 minutes into the contest following an assist from Castellanos and Bethany (Boo) Tinling, the senior's first as an Aztec.

The teams were evenly matched in most statistical categories. SDSU took 14 shots to NC State's 13. The Wolfpack earned a 5-4 advantage in cornerkicks, but committed more fouls (23-19).

"This was a great victory for us," said head coach Chuck Clegg. "They (North Carolina State) had a lot of opportunities to score that they didn't capitalize on. We finished very well today and that was the big difference for us."

The Aztecs will take their 3-1 record on the road to the UNLV Tournament next week, where they will face Weber State on Friday, Sept. 13, and Montana on Sunday, Sept. 15.
