Volleyball Falls To Washington In Three Games

HONOLULU - The Washington Huskies (4-0) defeated the San Diego State Aztecs (2-2) 31-29, 30-23 and 30-21 in the Aston Imua Challenge at the Stan Sheriff Center Thursday.

Zlatina Anguelova led San Diego State with a 10-kill, 15-dig, four-block performance, while Melissa Cansdale added 10 kills of her own. Nicole Akporiaye played big at the net for the Aztecs with seven blocks on the night.

Washington was led by the play of Paige Benjamin, who had 23 kills, eight digs and three blocks while hitting .400. Sanja Tomasevic also added 11 kills and nine digs while libero Candace Lee led the team with 10 digs.

The first game went back and forth with no team holding a lead of more than three points. The Aztecs got to game point first at 29-27, but the Huskies reeled off four straight points to take game one 31-29.

From there, Washington never looked back as they cruised to a 30-23 victory in game two and a 30-21 win in game three.

San Diego State will face the No. 4 Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine at 7:00 p.m. (HST) tonight after Washington plays San Francisco at 5:00 p.m. Hawai`i swept USF in the last night's late match 30 15, 30-20, 30-16.
