Men's Soccer Falls In Double-Overtime To CSU Northridge

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The San Diego State men's soccer team lost a double-overtime, 2-1 decision to CSU Northridge today at Matador Soccer Field. Peabo Woodson scored the game winner at 109 minutes, 52 seconds to give the Matadors their second straight overtime victory.

Following a scoreless first half, the SDSU sophomore duo of Paul Szefler and Eric Wohl combined to give the Aztecs a 1-0 lead with Szefler scoring his fifth goal of the season and Wohl recording his third assist on the year. Szefler now has a goal in each game that the Aztecs have scored this season.

CSU Northridge, ranked No. 7 in the Far West region, sent the match into overtime with a goal by Will Beard in the 83rd minute. Juan Guerrero and Rafael Sanchez recorded assists on the play.

San Diego State pressured CSUN with three shots on goal in the two overtime periods and five total shots, but Matador goalkeeper Radames Lafaurie made three saves while CSUN's only shot on goal in overtime found the mark as Woodson scored the gamewinner.

SDSU goalkeeper Brian Barnes was credited with seven saves, marking the fifth time this season he has made five or more saves in a match. Lafaurie registered eight saves.

CSUN out-shot SDSU, 25-16, with each team recording nine shots on goal. Szefler led the Aztecs with three shots as he, freshman Matt Couch and junior Nick Natale each had two shots on goal.

The Aztecs return to action Sunday in Los Angeles with a 1:00 p.m. match against No. 16 UCLA.
