Colorado Springs, Colo. - Senior runner Jennifer Stakiw has been named Mountain West Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
Stakiw finished 11th out of 111 runners at the Hawai'i Invitational on Sept. 21. She posted a time of 19:37.90 and led the Aztecs to a fourth-place finish. This marked the third straight race Stakiw has led the Aztecs to the finish line.
The team captain has had three top-20 finishes in as many races. At the CSU Fullerton Invitational on Aug. 31, Stakiw set a personal best with a 18:27.60 finish, good enough for 17th place. At the Aztec Invitational on Sept. 14, she finished in 18:52 (13th place).
Stakiw is a senior from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She is majoring in business at SDSU.
The Aztecs travel to Palo Alto on Saturday for the Stanford Invitational. The squad will compete against 45 teams, including No. 3 Stanford, No. 8 Duke and No. 12 UCLA.
