LAS VEGAS - In its second and final game of the UNLV Tournament, the San Diego State women's soccer team defeated the Montana Grizzlies, 2-1, Sunday afternoon. The win marks the Aztecs' fourth consecutive win and improves their record to 5-1. The last time San Diego State posted four or more straight victories was from Oct. 16-Nov. 4 of 1999, when the team won six consecutive matches.

The game was tied at 0-0 entering the half. Eight minutes into the second period, Aztec Kim Castellanos knocked in a goal inside the 18-yard box with assistance from Michele Wagner. Montana answered quickly, as Erin Smith put a header into the net off an assist from Liz Roberts just 16 seconds after Castellanos' goal. Noelle Jouglet gave SDSU the go-ahead goal 20 minutes later. Senior Boo Tinling was credited with the assist on Jouglet's goal.

"The girls battled really well through the 104-degree heat," said head coach Chuck Clegg. "We could have scored a couple of goals in the first half, but the goals we did score were manufactured well and were spectacular."

Clegg also noted that he was impressed with the way the defense performed. "The defense was excellent. They really kept the pressure off themselves."

The Aztecs out-shot the Griz 13-5, while Montana goalkeeper Sarah Braseth notched five saves to Stephanie Pearson's three.

The Aztecs will return home this week for the annual Alumni Game scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 21. The game begins at 11 a.m. at the Sports Deck. SDSU's next intercollegiate match is at Cal State Fullerton on Friday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
