McLintock Named Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball

June 6, 2002

San Diego - San Diego State Aztec first-year outfielder Jake McLintock has been named a first-team Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. He becomes the fifth SDSU freshman in the past five years to be honored by the publication.

McLintock, a native of nearby Bonita (Bonita Vista HS), batted .374 in his inaugural season at San Diego State and led the team in RBI (57) and sacrifice flies (9). He was also second on the squad in doubles (18), triples (4) and home runs (8). Defensively, he committed only one error in 61 games (primarily in right field) for a .990 fielding percentage.

Last season, both Anthony Gwynn and Mike Moat were named to Collegiate Baseball's honorable mention Freshman All-American squad while Rory Shortell garnered the same honor in 2000. Former outfielder Robert Womack was a first team selection in 1998.
