PROVO, Utah - The San Diego State softball team stole the spotlight at the 2002 Mountain West Conference Softball banquet with 11 total awards, including the regular season championship trophy.
Bre DeSanta was named to the all-Mountain West Conference team, along with senior second baseman Sarah Hershman, senior outfielders Kellie Nordhagen and Tiffany Goudy, sophomore shortstop Joann Figueroa, sophomore third baseman Kelcy Murphy and sophomore outfielder Janna Kovensky.
DeSanta also earned Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors. DeSanta set a single-season record with her six Player of the Week bids and finished regular-season play with a 9-0 record against league opponents.
Head coach Kathy Van Wyk was named as Coach of the Year for her impressive 14-4 finish in the conference. Coaches predicted the Aztecs would finish third in a pre-season poll.
