RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - A first-place finish in the grand final of the novice eight highlighted the San Diego State rowing team's competition in Sunday's WIRA Championships held on Lake Natoma.
The Aztecs' novice eight raced to a time 7:03.1, outdistancing Willamette (7:05.6) and PugetSound (7:08.7).
SDSU also recorded second-place finishes in the grand finals of the second varsity eight (7:03.7), second novice eight (7:31.9), novice four (7:42.0) and pairs (8:37.9) events.
The Aztecs' varsity eight placed fourth (6:56.6) in its grand final. Gonzaga took the event's top place with a 6:49.7 clocking, followed by Sacramento State (6:53.0) and the University of San Diego (6:55.7).
SDSU's varsity four boat earned a third-place finish (8:32.1) in Saturday's petite final.
The Aztecs return to action May 18-19 when they compete at the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships.
