Box Score

Colorado Springs - Air Force completed a three-game sweep of San Diego State with an 8-4 victory over the Aztecs Sunday afternoon at Falcon Field as it received a complete-game pitching effort for the third day in a row. This time it was senior Erik Fisher who scattered nine hits and struck out 10 as Air Force came back from a 4-1 deficit to move into a tie for second place with BYU, 3.5 games behind SDSU.

San Diego State (35-19, 16-8 MWC) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first on back-to-back doubles by Taber Lee and Anthony Gwynn plus an RBI fielder's choice by Royce Ring. They added a run in the third on a solo home run by freshman Jake McLintock his fourth of the season.

Air Force (25-22, 12-11 MWC) came back with a run in their half of the third only for SDSU to restore its three-run advantage in the next inning on an RBI single by catcher Brian Manfred.

The turning point of the game came in the fifth when the Falcons touched up Aztec starter Eric Human for three more runs and took the lead off reliever Erik Fiedler in the same inning. They added one in the sixth and capped the scoring with a two-run homer by Bowie Frost in the seventh.

Fisher, meanwhile, kept the Aztecs at bay the remainder of the game, holding them hitless over the final three innings. With the victory, the Falcon senior improved to 3-4 on the year. Fiedler took the loss for SDSU and saw his record drop to 1-2.

San Diego State will now take a short break from conference action with a game against UC Irvine on Tuesday, May 7, at 6:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The contest will be Jim Dietz's final home game as SDSU's head coach and will also mark the final appearance of four seniors.
