Five Aztecs Named To Academic All-MPSF Team

SAN DIEGO - Five members of the 2002 San Diego State water polo team were named to the Academic All-MPSF team, the conference announced today. Katie Clark, Casey Finnegan, Holly Hartzell, Heidi Matsumoto and Becky Sensney were among the 44 honorees.

Clark, a 5-4 utility from Fontana, played in 25 games. She scored two goals and registered six steals during the 2002 season. Clark is majoring in kinesiology (3.48 GPA) with plans to become a corporate personal trainer. Finnegan started 34 games at utility in her junior campaign. She totaled 40 goals and 63 steals during the season. Finnegan is majoring in liberal studies (3.01 GPA) with plans to become a teacher. Hartzell has proved herself in the game with 34 starts at the two-meter position. She was the Aztecs' leading scorer with 68 goals and second on the team with 53 steals. Hartzell holds a 3.27 GPA and is from Vista. Matsumoto started in 32 games as the Aztecs' leading driver. The junior scored 12 goals and registered 17 assists and 19 steals. Matsumoto in majoring in international business (3.02 GPA). Sensney played in 29 games at utility for the Aztecs. She scored two times and stole two balls during the season. Sensney is majoring in psychology with a 3.54 GPA.

The Aztecs finished the season with a 20-15 overall record and a 5-6 standing in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
