MISSION BAY, Calif. - San Diego State's varsity eight, novice eight and open eight boats earned the right to compete in the petite final of their respective event at Saturday's San Diego Crew Classic held on Mission Bay. Finals competition gets underway at 7 a.m. on Sunday.
The Aztecs' best finish of the day came in the novice eight competition, where it placed third with a time of 7:14.68. SDSU was edged by Washington, the nation's top-ranked novice squad, who finished second with a time of 7:12.45.
Racing in the varsity eight Cal Cup prelims saw SDSU place fourth with a time of 7:12.52, good enough to advance them to Sunday's petite final.
SDSU's open eight also earned the right to race on Sunday, placing fourth at 7:27.83.
The Aztecs' second varsity eight squad placed second in Saturday's third final with a time of 7:06.08 after coming in fifth (7:21.82) in the morning's preliminary heat.
Sunday's finals events begin at 7 a.m. and conclude at 3 p.m.
