LAREDO, Texas - Winners of three tournaments already this spring, the 19th-ranked San Diego State men's golf team is in the hunt for a fourth after two rounds of the 51st Annual Border Olympics.

Four of five Aztecs shot par or better during Friday's opening 36 holes at the Laredo Country Club as SDSU carded a combined 8-under par total of 568 to wrap up the opening day of play in tied for second place with Louisiana-Lafayette.

No. 26 Baylor shot a team total of 12-under 564 and leads the 17-team field. Defending Border Olympics champion and 21st-ranked New Mexico is fourth at 3-under 573.

"We played very well as a team today and we've got to do the same thing tomorrow to stay in contention," said SDSU head coach Dale Walker. "We are in a familiar position heading into the final round so this is nothing new to us. The comfort level that comes with having won before should be a big edge for us."

Senior Scott Henderson fired back-to-back 70s to pace the Aztecs and enters Saturday's third and final round tied for fifth at 4-under 140. Junior Lars Johansson also finished up below par and sits three strokes back of Henderson in a three-way tie for 13th at 1-under 143.

Junior John Lieber and senior Brandon Kearney both completed the first 36 holes at even-par 144 and are tied for 16th. Lieber's second-round 69 was the Aztecs' lowest 18-hole score of the day.

Orn Hjartarson of Louisiana-Lafayette sits atop the individual leaderboard with Baylor's Jamie McLeary at 8-under 136.

The final round of the 51st Annual Border Olympics tees off Saturday with an 8 a.m. (CST) shotgun start.
