SUNRIVER, Ore. - Aztec sophomore Mark Warman continued to set the pace at the 2002 Mountain West Conference Men's Golf Championship Tuesday, firing an even-par 72 on the Sunriver Resort's Crosswater Course to maintain his hold atop the leaderboard through two rounds.

Warman, who is looking for his first collegiate win, enters Wednesday's third and final round at 4-under-par 140, two strokes ahead of Colorado State's Martin Laird, who finished up today's action at 2-under 142.

But despite Warman's torrid play, the rest of the news was less positive for 25th-ranked SDSU as for the second straight day no other Aztec was able to shoot par.

Junior Lars Johansson and senior Brandon Kearney came the closest, shooting 73 and 74, respectively. But senior Scott Henderson could only manage a 78 for the Aztecs' fourth counting score as San Diego State carded a combined 9-over-par 297 for a two-round total of 14-over 590.

UNLV finished the second round with a 1-over 289 to hold its lead in the team race at 1-over 577, 13 strokes ahead of fifth-place San Diego State. New Mexico and Air Force are tied for second at 3-over 597. Brigham Young is fourth at 4-over 580.

The third and final round of the 2002 Mountain West Conference Men's Golf Championships tees off from the Sunriver Resort Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. (PDT).
