San Diego - San Diego State sophomore Rielly Embrey (Poway, Calif./Poway High School) has been named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week for his performance in last weekend's three-game series against Brigham Young.
Embrey went 6-for-12 with six RBI, three doubles and four runs scored in those contests against the Cougars. In Thursday's 10-2 win, he came up with the bases load (SDSU leading 2-1) and hit a three-RBI bases-clearing double.
In Friday's game, he scored in the third inning to give SDSU a 3-2 lead and also walked twice. On Saturday, he came up in the first inning with the bases loaded (1-1 score) and delivered another three-RBI bases-clearing double. He scored at least one run in each game (two on Thursday after hitting a second double) and had an on-base percentage of .571 for the weekend.
Up next for the Aztecs (33-14, 15-3 MWC) is a three-game series with second-place Utah this weekend beginning Friday night at 6:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
