San Diego - The University of San Diego scored an unearned run in the top of the 10th inning and defeated San Diego State, 4-3, Tuesday night at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The win improved the 25th-ranked Toreros to 25-8 while the Aztecs fell to 22-12.

With one out in the 10th and SDSU reliever Royce Ring on the mound, Luis Diaz-Miron hit a ball between first and second that went for a single. In chasing down the ball, SDSU's Carlo Cota kicked the ball toward the foul line and Miron advanced to second.

After a strikeout, Torero center fielder Tom Caple hit a ground ball to short. Taber Lee's throw to first was high and wide, and pinch runner Zach Dobak scored from second base, just beating the throw from Aztec first baseman Jon Stephens.

Ring took the loss to even his season ledger at 1-1 on the season. USD's Mike Oseguera improved his record to 5-1 while Ricky Barrett, a member of the Torero staring rotation, threw a perfect 10th for USD to pick up his first save of the year.

The Toreros struck first in the game, scoring a pair of runs in the second on a two-RBI double by shortstop Eric Verdugo. SDSU countered with a run in the bottom of the inning on a two-out RBI double by josh Hill.

San Diego State took the lead in the fourth, getting an RBI single from Cook and a bases-loaded hit by pitch from Taber Lee. USD knotted the game at 3-3 when Mike McCoy singled home Joey Prast in the top of the seventh.

Freshman Jake McLintock led the Aztec offense, going 4-for-5 with two singles and a pair of doubles while teammate Jon Stephens contributed three hits and scored twice. For USD, Caple and Verdugo each had a single and a double.

San Diego State will travel north on Wednesday to face the Lake Elsinore Storm, the Class A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, in a seven-inning exhibition contest at The Diamond in Lake Elsinore at 7:05 p.m. That game will be televised live in San Diego by Cox Channel 4.

The Aztecs return to Mountain West Conference action when they host New Mexico for a three-game series beginning Friday (April 5) at 6:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
