Water Polo Closes Regular Season At UCSD

San Diego State will compete in its regular season finale on Friday when the Aztecs visit cross-town rival, UCSD. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at the Canyonview Pool. The Aztecs will then take a week off to prepare for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships. The tournament will be held April 26-28 at USC's McDonald Swim Complex.

The Rankings...The Standings
San Diego State is currently the nation's fifth-ranked team, the highest ranking they have held this season. In the MPSF, San Diego State is tied for sixth place with Hawai'i. The Aztecs hold a 17-13 record, and are 5-6 in conference play.

The Competition
UC San Diego Tritons
* The Aztecs hold a 21-6 all-time advantage over the eighth-ranked Tritons.
* The two teams have faced each other twice this season, splitting action.
* The Tritons were victorious in the first meeting at the UCSD Arena NoGrip Invitational, defeating the Aztecs 5-4.
* The two teams faced each other again in March, at the UCSB Mini Tourney, where the Aztecs took the contest, 5-4.

Last Week
SDSU had a busy week, fitting in six games in a span of four days. The Aztecs finished up their home games for the season as they hosted Hawaii on Thursday, then traveled to Long Beach over the weekend, taking second-place in The Long Beach State Invitational.

* Dominique Delgado led the Aztecs with five goals, one steal and one assist against No. 11 Hawaii, but it wasn't enough as the Aztecs fell to the Wahine Warriors, 11-10. Amber Prestegard added two goals for the Aztecs while Casey Finnegan and Holly Hartzell each added one.

* The Aztecs captured second place at The Long Beach State Invitational, falling to top-ranked USC, 15-5, in the title game. San Diego State competed in pool play on Saturday, defeating Cal State Bakersfield, 8-5, and Pacific, 10-9 in overtime. The Aztecs advanced to Sunday's championship round, defeating Long Beach State, 9-6, before falling to USC. San Diego State also lost to Redlands, 7-6, on Saturday.

* Holly Hartzell had nine goals, five assists and 10 steals for the Aztecs during the tournament, earning her MPSF player of the week honors.
