Cal State Northridge scored eight runs over the first three innings and cruised to a 13-1 win over San Diego State Tuesday afternoon at Matador Field in Northridge. SDSU saw its record drop to 29-13 while CSN improved to 26-13.
Five Northridge pitchers held the Aztecs to five hits on the day as no more than one SDSU hitter reached safely in any inning. Starter Kameron Loe was credited with the win and saw his record improve to 4-2.
San Diego State's Rob Harrand (4-1) was roughed up for seven runs (six earned) on six hits in his two innings of work as he suffered his first loss of the season. SDSU used a total of seven pitchers in the contest that saw the Matadors collect a total of 11 hits along with seven walks and three hit batters.
The Aztecs' lone run of the afternoon came on a solo home run by Brian Manfred in the fifth inning. It was the first of the season for the senior catcher.
SDSU will now have a day to recover before it hosts Mountain West Conference rival Brigham Young in a series that matches the number-one and two teams in the league standings.
The first game of the series on Thursday (April 18) will be preceded by the completion of the game that was suspended in Provo on March 23. That contest will resume with the Aztecs coming to bat in the top of the ninth, leading 11-10. Action gets underway at Tony Gwynn Stadium at 6:00 p.m.
