STANFORD, Calif. -
Sandy Kim carded a 3-over par 77 and Shayna Miyajima shot 78 as the San Diego State women's golf team wrapped up the opening day of play at the Peg Barnard Collegiate in 10th place with a combined team total of 26-over 314 Saturday at the Stanford Golf Course.

Kim, tied for 27th heading into Sunday's second and final round, is five strokes back of tournament leaders Marcela Leon of San Jose State and Tasha Browner of Washington State at even par.

Miyajima, whose opening round included a hole-in-on on the par-3 No. 8 hole, is tied for 37th.

"For playing our second tournament in less than seven days today's effort was a solid one for us," said SDSU assistant coach Felicia Brown. "This is a very strong field and we are still in the hunt for a top-5 finish. I couldn't have asked much more from our team considering the fatigue factor."

No. 19 Washington, one of five top-20 squads in the field, shot a combined 9-over 297 and is the first-round leader. No. 14 Southern California is in second at 12-over 300 with Washington State in third a 13-over 301.

No. 8 Arizona State, the tournament's highest ranked team, concluded Saturday's play in ninth, just five strokes ahead of San Diego State.

Heather Rollo, the only other Aztec to finish up in the top-50, shot a 7-over 79 and is tied for 41st. Claire Riley and Jennifer Hoene are 51st and 68th, respectively.

The 2002 Peg Barnard Collegiate concludes Sunday, beginning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
