Water Polo Travels to Long Beach

This Week
The sixth-ranked SDSU women's water polo team travels to the Long Beach State campus to compete in The Beach Women's Water Polo Invitational, April 13th and 14th. SDSU is set to face Long Beach State's "B" team on Saturday morning and will then advance to pool play with a field of 16 teams.

By The Numbers
San Diego State is currently ranked sixth in the nation, and tied for fifth in the MPSF with San Jose State. The Aztecs hold a 14-10 record, and are 5-5 in conference play.

The Competition
The Beach Women's Water Polo Invitational
The Aztecs are set to face Long Beach State's "B" team in the first round of the invitational and will then advance to pool play. SDSU will match-up with either UCSD or Cal State Bakersfield in the second round Saturday afternoon. Sunday, the teams will play in the morning, with the championship round set for Sunday afternoon. The 16-team field includes top-ranked USC, fifth-ranked Long Beach State and ninth-ranked UCSD.

Looking Ahead
SDSU gets a final tune-up for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships when it travels to UC San Diego for a 6 p.m. contest on April 19. The MPSF Tournament will be April 26-28 and will be hosted by Southern California.

Last Week
The Aztecs took a week off from competition before splitting games with conference opponents San Jose State and Stanford. The Aztecs upset sixth-ranked San Jose State, 8-7, on Thursday afternoon at the SJSU Aquatics Center, but then fell to top-ranked Stanford, 12-4, Friday evening in Palo Alto.

San Jose State Recap
Aztec Holly Hartzell scored the game-winning goal with 1:43 remaining in a heated contest as eighth-ranked San Diego State upset sixth-ranked San Jose State, 8-7, Thursday afternoon. Hartzell led the Aztecs with a total of three goals, while Amber Prestegard scored two. Casey Finnegan, Dominique Delgado Beth Merlo each added one.

Stanford Recap
San Diego State fell to top ranked Stanford, 12-4, Friday evening at the Avery Aquatics center in Palo Alto. Holly Hartzell led the Aztecs with two goals, while Amber Prestegard and Lisa Weise each scored one. Goalkeepers Heather Stiles and Ashley Zabel split time in the cage with Stiles recording one save, and Zabel, six.
