ALBUQUERQUE - Despite a six-run surge towards the end of the game, the Aztecs lost to New Mexico, 7-6, in game one, but turned things around in the second game with a 10-4 romp over the Lobos, that included a team-high 16 hits. The spilt gives the Aztecs a 29-19-1 overall record and a 6-2 record in the Mountain West.
Game one started when New Mexico scored two runs in the third frame and then exploded in the fourth with five runs. The Aztecs closed out the fifth inning with five runs on six hits.
The bats for State didn't stop there, scoring two runs in the fifth and sixth off of seven hits. The fifth started when Goudy doubled to center field and later scored. Touhey singled to right center, sending Murphy home. The runs in the sixth were scored off of the bats of Hershman with a single up the middle and Murphy with a double down the right-field line. Janna Kovensky and Hershman put the runs on the board for the Aztecs.
The seventh inning score was a home run off the the bat of Summer Ehrsam, her first of the season.
