Aztecs Down UNLV, 10-3, In Series Opener

San Diego - San Diego State same out swinging Friday night, scoring four times in the first inning en route to a 10-3 win over UNLV at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The win allowed the Aztecs to maintain their hold on first place in the league standings as they improved to 27-12 (9-3 MWC) on the season. The loss dropped the Rebels to 17-19 overall and 5-8 in conference play.

Junior right-hander Chris Dunwell went seven innings for SDSU, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out eight to improve his record to 6-3. Eric Human finished the final two innings, striking out three along the way.

UNLV starter Courtney Hall was touched up for four hits in the Aztec outburst in the first inning, with one error making one of the four runs unearned. He continued into the second frame, but was lifted when SDSU scored three more times on four hits to take a 7-2 lead.

Second baseman Carlo Cota and left fielder Ryan Wilson tallied three hits apiece for San Diego State along with an RBI and run scored each. Right fielder Jake McLintock had a pair of hits including a double. The freshman from Bonita finished the night with three runs batted in and scored twice.

Rebel first baseman David Trujillo had a pair of singles and was the only UNLV player to account for more than one base hit.
