SAN DIEGO - The 22nd-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team completed an undefeated Mountain West Conference season on Sunday with a 5-2 victory at Air Force.
The Aztecs were victorious for the ninth time in their last 10 outings and improved to 14-7 overall and 7-0 in Mountain West Conference play. Air Force fell to 11-11 overall and 0-5 in league action. San Diego State has now won 13 consecutive league matches dating back to last season and outscored their seven league opponents this season by a 40-9 margin.
San Diego State swept all three doubles matches, the eighth time the Aztecs have done that in their last nine matches. Katja Karrento and Katalina Romero were victorious at number one, Indra Erichsen and Silvia Tornier claimed the number two doubles match while Lindsey Hedberg and Julie Anna Chidley won at number three.
Three of the singles matches were decided in two sets, with the Aztecs winning two team points. At number four singles, San Diego State's Katey Clark-Becker claimed a 6-3, 6-0 win. Chidley was victorious at number five singles for the Aztecs, winning 6-2, 6-2.
The Aztecs claimed two of the three three-set matches. Karrento won at number two singles and Erichsen rallied from a set down to win.
San Diego State returns home to face Loyola Marymount on Saturday. Match time at the SDSU Courts is set for noon.
