SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team, the 22nd-ranked team in the country, had its seven-match winning streak snapped and suffered its first defeat since March 13 on Wednesday afternoon in a 5-2 loss at 42nd-ranked Pepperdine.
The Waves won number one and three doubles to claim the doubles point. That marked just the sixth time in 19 dual matches this season that the Aztecs have not won the doubles point and snapped a string of 18 consecutive doubles matches San Diego State had won.
Pepperdine secured the victory by winning four of the six singles matches at the Ralph-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif. The Aztecs received victories from Silvia Tornier at number one singles and Katalina Romero at number three singles.
The Aztecs played without Katja Karrento in the singles lineup. Karrento, who played the previous 18 matches for the Aztecs at number three singles, sat out singles play to rest a sore knee.
Pepperdine improved to 7-12 overall while San Diego State is now 12-7. The Aztecs will be back in action this weekend when they travel to the Air Force Academy to battle New Mexico on Saturday and Air Force on Sunday.
