The San Diego State women's program moved up 10 positions and joins the men's program with a national ranking in the top 30 in the Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Wednesday.
The women moved from No. 39 to a season-high No. 29 ranking this week. San Diego State has won four straight matches and is 9-6 overall and 2-0 in conference action entering a Thursday match against 15th-ranked UNLV. The Aztecs and Rebels are the only two Mountain West Conference teams with undefeated league records.
The San Diego State women will play three times in three days beginning with the Rebels on Thursday. San Diego State will play league foes Wyoming on Friday and Colorado State on Saturday. The matches on Thursday and Friday begin at 2 p.m. PST, while Saturday's match is slated for a 10 a.m. PST start.
The San Diego State men's team is ranked in the top 30 for the second consecutive week, slipping from No. 25 to No. 30 this week. The Aztecs, which played two matches last week without All-America candidate Oliver Maiberger, posted a 1-1 mark, losing 4-3 to 71st-ranked Yale before rebounding for a 6-1 win over 61st-ranked Princeton.
Only team rankings were released this week meaning that last week's individual rankings remain unchanged. The Aztecs also sport the 21st-ranked singles player in sophomore Oliver Maiberger, and Maiberger teams with Ryan Redondo to form the nation's third-ranked doubles team. Updated individual rankings will be released next Wednesday.
San Diego State is 8-7 on the campaign entering conference play this weekend in Las Vegas. The Aztecs will play New Mexico on Friday, Air Force on Saturday and UNLV on Sunday. The San Diego State men have won eight straight league matches dating back to Jan. 27, 2000.
